To begin with, we must try to do things ourselves.
BUG Cafe tie-in menu
“The Impostor Parfait”
As a tie-in to the exhibition, there will also be a special menu available at BUG Cafe, right next to the gallery space. We have designed a parfait dessert with a story, inspired by the exhibition’s themes of the social structures and individual lives associated with special fraud. The journey through its layers represent how someone’s circumstances can gradually progress: the white cheese mousse at the bottom stands for innocence of mind, while the acidity of the orange sauce and the crunchy croquant recall the stimulating sensation of setting foot in a new world; the see-through jelly is a nod to concealed identities and to evidence dissolved in water, and the mosaic of black and white pieces of sponge cake to a conflicted mind. The two scoops of gelato, which have the same appearance but different flavors, symbolize deceitful disguise. Pour warm espresso over the parfait yourself to complete the dish, an action that may bring to mind the “outflow,” or maybe the “depositing,” of money.
The parfait is a complex blend of many ingredients, which may be hiding something within its lavish exterior.
